On Wednesday (February 12), a unique piece of ODI history was created as four Asian teams secured wins on the same day.
There were four One-Day Internationals scheduled on February 12, 2025, and each of them involved one Asian team – Sri Lanka v Australia, Oman v USA, India v England, and Pakistan v South Africa.
The first of those games saw Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka record a career-best 127, helping his side to post 214, and win by 49 runs. In the second, Oman's Shakeel Ahmed took 4-26 to help skittle USA for 151, before securing a seven-wicket win.
In the most high-profile clash of the day, Shubman Gill's century, as well as fifties from Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer helped India set up a crushing 142-run win over England in Ahmedabad.
The day's final game then saw Pakistan break a national record as Mohammad Rizwan (122*) and Salman Ali Agha (134) played a vital role to help them chase down 353 against South Africa in Karachi.
Four Asian teams win on the same day to create ODI history
That set of results has made it the first time in men's, or women's, ODI history that four Asian teams have secured wins on the same day. In fact, this is the first time that four Asian teams have all played non-Asian opposition on the same day.
It is rare enough that several Asian teams are in action on the same day. Even when they are, these matches are often against each other, and happen during multi-team tournaments such as World Cups, or Asia Cups.

In men's ODIs, three Asian teams have recorded wins on the same day – this happened on March 6, 1996 when Sri Lanka defeated Kenya by 144 runs in Kandy, India defeated Zimbabwe by 40 runs in Kanpur and Pakistan beat New Zealand by 46 runs in Lahore – all in the 1996 World Cup.
Three is also the most Asian wins on a single day of women's ODI cricket. On February 15, 2017, India beat South Africa by 49 runs, Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by five wickets and Bangladesh beat Ireland by seven wickets, all at different venues in Colombo.
