The India and England players are wearing green ribbons during the third ODI between the two sides, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Here is why.
At the toss, captains Rohit Sharma and Jos Buttler were seen wearing green ribbons on their arms. As the teams made their way to the middle, all players were spotted wearing the same ribbons on their arms.
What do the green ribbons represent?
Players from both sides are wearing these ribbons to support the BCCI’s “Donate Organs, Save Lives” initiative. After the toss, both captains were seen signing a pledge and posing for the cameras along with recipients of organs.
Ahead of the third ODI, the BCCI announced an organ donation initiative, with cricketers from the Indian team featuring in a recorded video, urging the public to donate organs and save lives. The video, posted by the BCCI, showed Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Arshdeep Singh spreading the message.
The lack of availability of organs has been a huge epidemic in Indian medical facilities as healthcare professionals cite the lack of availability as one of the key reasons behind the increasing fatalities in their respective healthcare centres.
The initiative, headed by ICC chair Jay Shah, is aimed at raising awareness about the same and eventually solving the issue at a nationwide level.
Using the initiative, the ICC’s motive is to inspire everybody to make a difference and aid in saving more lives.
