India defeated Bangladesh with ease in the first Test in Chennai - here's how the updated World Test Championship points table looks after the first IND vs BAN Test.
India's first match of the 2024-25 home Test season ended in familiar fashion as the hosts crushed Bangladesh by 280 runs. Having been put into bat on an overcast first day and a helpful-looking pitch by the Bangladesh captain, India were rescued by a counter-attacking century by R Ashwin, his sixth in Test matches.
Jasprit Bumrah then led the rout of Bangladesh in the first innings with 4-50 to bowl them out for 149 and hand India a 227-run lead. Centuries from Shubman Gill (119 not out) and Rishabh Pant (109) took India to 287-4 in the second innings, setting up a target of 515 for the visitors, who crumbled for 234, with Ashwin picking 6-88 to go with his first innings hundred.
WTC points table: India consolidate position at the top
After the victory, India's points percentage (PCT) has risen to 71.66 with 86 points from 10 Tests. They were already at the top of the table, and have now extended their lead over second-placed Australia to 9.16 per cent.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, have dropped from fourth to sixth with one loss, as their PCT has gone down from 45.83 to 39.28. Both Sri Lanka and England have moved up one spot each.
