Sanju Samson hit five sixes in five balls during his blistering hundred in India’s third T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday (October 12).
Samson, who has been opening the innings during the series, was not able to maximise his opportunity in the first two games, making 29 and 10. However, in Hyderabad, he overturned his indifferent form, blitzing his way to a remarkable ton in just 40 balls. It was Samson’s first century in 33 T20Is and just his third score of more than fifty in the format.
Samson, who raced away to 31 in his first 15 balls, needed seven more runs to score his fifty. He got to the landmark with a six over long-off, and it was just the start of a carnage from the wicketkeeper.
In the 10th over, Samson went berserk against Rishad Hossain. He played out a dot first up before smoking five successive sixes. The first was launched over the bowler’s head, while the second was sent over the long-off for a maximum.
Samson went on to hit three more, becoming the first India player since Yuvraj Singh in 2007 to hit five or more sixes in an over. He also scored 30 runs in the over, the second-most a batter from the country has made.
Courtesy of his knock, India raced away to 179-1 in 12 overs and will be looking to break their all-time highest T20I score of 260-5, which they scored back in 2017 against Sri Lanka.
He was eventually dismissed for 111 in 47 balls.
