Watch: Rishabh Pant hit an astonishing lap sweep en route to his sixth Test hundred in his comeback game against Bangladesh today (September 21).
Pant, who was playing his first Test since December 2022, continued from where he had left off, smashing a 128-ball 109 with 13 fours and four sixes. Walking out to bat at No.5 after the dismissal of Virat Kohli, Pant took his time, making his first 30 runs in 62 balls. He needed 16 more balls to reach his fifty before going on through the gears. After reaching his half-century, he hit nine fours and two sixes, one of which was a stunning hit over fine-leg.
Hasan Mahmud sent down a length ball outside the leg stump and Pant went down on one knee, heaving it over fine leg for a six. The shot left the dressing room in smiles as Pant made a remarkable comeback.
The left-hander completed his hundred in just 124 balls to equal MS Dhoni’s record for most centuries in the format. He now has six hundreds, the joint-highest by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket.
