Rohit Sharma was aghast at the dismissal of Virat Kohli, who opted not to review a DRS call despite edging the ball onto his pad in the first IND v BAN Test in Chennai

Virat Kohli refused to take a review when he was given out lbw on day two of the India-Bangladesh Chennai Test. However, replays revealed that Kohli might have made an error by not opting for the DRS.

Facing up to Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 20th over of India's second innings, Kohli first smashed a boundary towards backward square leg, pulling a short ball for four.

Kohli opts against review

Having gone to 17 with that shot, Kohli looked settled at the crease when he missed a half-volley on off and middle, trying to flick it away to the leg side with the turn. He was hit on the pads and umpire Richard Kettleborough didn't take long to raise his finger. Kohli consulted with his partner Shubman Gill for a potential review, but opted against it, given how straight it looked to the naked eye. It was a strange call, given Kohli's usual propensity to review most of the lbw calls that go against him.

As he made his way back, the broadcasters showed the replay of his dismissal, with ball tracking and Ultra Edge. Much to everyone's surprise, Ultra Edge showed a spike just as the ball passed Kohli's bat. Had Kohli reviewed the decision, it would have been overturned and he'd have had another shot at continuing his innings.

Captain Rohit Sharma was understandably dismayed at the revelation in the dressing room, shrugging in disbelief. Rohit himself has had a disappointing game, making six and five across the two innings, making it just the second home Test where he has made two single-digit scores, the last one having come way back in 2015.

Kohli's dismissal off Mehidy was his second against the off-spinner, having also been dismissed off his bowling in the series in Bangladesh two years back.

India in command after Bumrah's four-for

Earlier in the day, Jasprit Bumrah (4-50) led India's bowling attack, knocking Bangladesh over for 149, handing India a 227-run lead. He breached the 400-wickets milestone in international cricket in the process.

India finished the day on 81-3, leading by 308 runs.
