Rishabh Pant, playing his comeback Test, equalled MS Dhoni's record for the most Test centuries by an India wicketkeeper, during the India-Bangladesh Chennai Test.
Pant equals Dhoni
Pant, playing his first Test since he featured in the 2022 Mirpur Test between the same teams, after which he was out of the game for a lengthy period, reached his sixth Test century on the third day. He was eventually dismissed for 109 off 128 balls, putting together a 167-run stand with Shubman Gill.
Pant is now tied with Dhoni for the most Test centuries by an India wicketkeeper. Dhoni's six centuries came in 144 innings, while Pant has reached the same in 58. The next best on the list is Wriddhiman Saha, who has hit three centuries.
Overall, the record for the most centuries by a designated keeper remains with Adam Gilchrist (17 in 137 innings), while Andy Flower is second with 12 in 100.
Dhoni is third on the all-time list for keepers with the most 50+ Test scores (39), behind Gilchrist (43) and Mark Boucher (40).
Since his debut in August 2018, Pant's six Test centuries are the most by any designated wicketkeeper, with Quinton de Kock, Litton Das and Mohammad Rizwan tied at three each.
Shubman Gill reaches 100 sixes
Gill became the 17th India player to hit a 100 international sixes for India, reaching the milestone on his way to his fifth Test century. Gill's hundred is now his second in his last three Test innings, and his third this year. Among Indians, only Yashasvi Jaiswal has more Test tons (4) this year.
