India player ratings

India won both Test matches, at Chennai and Kanpur, to beat Bangladesh 2-0 in the Test series. Here are the marks out of 10 for the India cricketers.

Rohit Sharma: 4/10
2 matches | 42 runs at 10.50, HS: 23

Rohit’s field placements and bowling changes were spot on. At the same time, barring the three sixes that got India off to a rollicking start at Kanpur, he had an ordinary series with the bat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: 8.5/10
2 matches | 189 runs @ 47.25, HS: 72, 3 fifties | Ct: 4

If Jaiswal’s three fifties in four innings demonstrated his ability to score runs, the different nature of his innings showed his ability to adapt. Gets half a point for those excellent slip catches.

Shubman Gill: 7/10
2 matches | 164 runs @ 54.67, HS: 119*, 1 hundred

A satisfying hundred at Chennai, but little else of note for Gill in the series – though he can hardly be blamed for holing out while going for the slog in the first innings at Kanpur.

Virat Kohli: 5/10
2 matches | 99 runs @ 33.00, HS: 47

Kohli followed an ordinary outing in Chennai (where he got a bad decision) with two quick innings at Kanpur. That average is approaching 50 again.

Rishabh Pant: 8/10
2 matches | 161 runs @ 53.67, HS: 109, 1 hundred | Ct: 3

Pant celebrated his return to Test cricket with an emotional hundred. He also put to rest the worries around his keeping for extended periods of time. He is Australia-ready again.

KL Rahul: 6.5/10
2 matches | 106 runs @ 53.00, HS: 68, 1 fifty | Ct: 3

Two of Rahul’s three innings came when India needed to score quickly, and he responded to the task. Gets half a point for his catching.

Ravindra Jadeja: 9/10
2 matches | 94 runs @ 47.00, HS: 86, 1 fifty | 9 wickets @ 15.44, BBI: 3-34

Jadeja began the series by bailing out India after they were 144-6. He then went on to take nine wickets at an astonishing average. En route, he became the third Indian to the 3,000 run-300 wicket double.

R Ashwin: 9.5/10
2 matches | 114 runs @ 57.00, HS: 113, 1 hundred | 11 wickets @ 19.27, BBI: 6-88, 1 5WI

More runs and more wickets than Jadeja earn Ashwin half a point more than his partner-in-crime from Saurashtra.

Jasprit Bumrah: 9/10
2 matches | 11 wickets @ 12.81, BBI: 4-50

Bumrah has delivered whenever India needed wickets, and this series was no exception. He was at his brutal best during the 4-50 in the first innings, but just as destructive were his twin three-wicket hauls in Kanpur.

Akash Deep: 8/10
2 matches | 5 wickets @ 20.40, BBI: 2-19

It is debatable whether Akash has done enough to merit a place in the Test XI in Australia if India play three fast bowlers, but at this stage, it will be surprising if he is not in the squad.

Mohammed Siraj: 5/10
2 matches | 4 wickets @ 34.50, BBI: 2-30

Given Akash’s performance, especially in the first spell, Siraj will have his work cut out once Mohammed Shami returns.
