The India-Bangladesh Kanpur Test is likely to be affected by rain: here are the latest weather updates from the Green Park Stadium, set to host the match beginning September 27.

India's retreating monsoon has brought about spells of shower across the country, and Kanpur is likely to be one of the regions affected towards the end of the week.

On Thursday, a day ahead of the scheduled start, there were spells of heavy rain in the afternoon, with chance of precipitation as high as 98 per cent leading up to evening.

The forecast looks bleak but there’s no rain in Kanpur currently. Some covers have come off and the ground staff are working hard to dry the outfield with sponge and sand. The next inspection is at 10 am local time.

Play called off early for second successive day due to rain

Play was called off at 2:00pm on day two, without a ball bowled on Saturday. Bangladesh remain at 107-3 after 35 overs, as they were at the end of day one.

Rain causes delayed start on day two of Kanpur Test

After stumps were called on day one due to rain, further showers on the morning of day two have forced a delay on Saturday as well.

According to AccuWeather, the chances of rain throughout the day hover around 35-40 per cent, meaning there is a chance we could have another interrupted day.

BBC Weather predicts a similar situation, with the chances of rain going as high as 70 per cent around the scheduled start of the second session (12:10pm local time).

Weather.com's forecast is almost identical to BBC Weather's. On the whole, the situation looks fairly grim, and for play to get underway the rain will first have to stop, and the ground will need to be drained after that.

Play called off early due to persistent rain

The first session of the match was delayed by an hour. After winning the toss, India opted to field first. A new-ball spell from Akash Deep reduced the hosts to 2-29 before Mominul Haque (40*) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (31) got together to repair the teetering innings. Bangladesh were at 107 for three when bad light stopped play. Heavy showers arrived in the meantime, resulting in early stumps on the opening day.

Kanpur rains: Wet outfield delays toss on Day 1

Revised match timings:

First session: 10.30am to 12.30pm
Second session: 1.10pm to 3.10pm
Third session: 3.30pm to 5.30pm

The toss for the second Test match was delayed due to a wet outfield at Green Park on Friday. The weather forecast predicts possible thunderstorms on the day in Kanpur, with 90 per cent humidity and 25 degrees dew point, according to Weather.com. India and Bangladesh will battle it out on a black soil pitch under overcast skies.

According to BBC Weather, the forecast for the morning of day one is not promising. Chances of rain were as high as 76% at 7:30am, two hours before the start of play. At 9:30am, the scheduled start time, those go up as high as 80%, before coming down to 40-50% around lunchtime.

The forecast is slightly more promising from Weather.com. Chances of precipitation in Kanpur are around 52% in the morning, before the start of play. This goes up to 70-75% around 1:30pm and hovers around 50-60% through the afternoon. There may be enough time to get some overs in, but it could be an interrupted day.

AccuWeather does not paint a hopeful picture either. Chances of rain before play are low, but during the first session go up as high as 64%. In the afternoon session, they go down a bit to roughly 50%. Once again, this says it could be a stop-start day one in Kanpur.
