Mayank Yadav debut

Mayank Yadav consistently hit the 140kph mark on his T20I debut, against Bangladesh at Gwalior.

On his international debut, against Bangladesh at Gwalior, Mayank Yadav did not scale 150kph but consistently hit the 140kph mark, crossing the mark 17 times in his 24-ball spell. His average pace, 138.7kph, was partly a product of several slower balls. The median pace (144.4kph) takes care of the outliers and provides a truer picture of how quick he bowled.

Over 1: Maiden (fastest: 147.6kph, slowest: 138kph, average: 142.5kph)

Mayank began at 141.9kph to Towhid Hridoy before increasing the pace to 145.1kph. He varied his pace thereafter, albeit by significant margins – rounding off the over with 138kph147.3kph135.2kph, and 147.6kph. He became the third Indian to begin his T20I career with a maiden.

Over 2: 3 runs, 1 wicket (fastest: 149.9kph, slowest: 113.3kph, average: 140.1kph)

Mayank began his second over with 148.8kph, his fastest ball until that point. Mahmudullah made room to the next, which came at 146.1kph, and could only hole out to Washington Sundar at deep point.

Mayank now bowled the fastest ball of his spell, at 149.9kph, to Jaker Ali, before dropping the pace of the next to 113.3kph (though Najmul Hossain Shanto read the change of pace). He finished the over with 142.7kph and 140kph, conceding three.

Over 3: 15 runs (fastest: 147.7kph, slowest: 140.7kph, average: 145kph)

Taken away after two overs, Mayank returned in the 13th. Mehidy Hasan Miraz pushed the first ball (140.7kph) but cut the second (143.6kph) hard to the fence, and got a single off an even quicker ball (148.4kph).

Mayank kept the pace on – this was his fastest over – by responding with balls at 147.7kph and 146.7kph. Rishad Hossain cut the first of these four six and on-drove the other four four. Mayank held back the length for his sixth ball (142.8kph), to which Rishad tried to make room but missed.

Over 4: 3 runs (fastest: 146.5 kph, slowest: 106.2 kph, average: 127kph)

Bangladesh were nine down by the time Mayank returned for his final over. All he needed was that one wicket. He tried to play the quicker-slower card (145.6kph followed by 106.2kph), but Mehidy kept strike. Mayank continued with the ploy for the rest for the rest of the over (145.1, 111.5, 145.8, 107.8), but could not break through.
