Tilak started his international career with two sixes off the first three balls he faced when he came out to bat at No.4 on his debut in the first match of the five-match series against the West Indies. Since then, he played four impactful knocks and ended the series as the highest run-scorer for India with 173 runs.

In the final match of the series, Tilak was called upon to bowl his part-time off-spin for the first time in international cricket. With the game slipping away from India’s grasp and Nicholas Pooran going great guns, Hardik Pandya wanted an option that could take the ball away from the left-hander.

With Kuldeep Yadav having finished his quota, Tilak was the only choice left. He came on to bowl in the 14th over and had an immediate impact.

The first ball was a sharp off-break pitching just outside off and turning away to beat Pooran’s outside edge. It induced a stumping appeal, but replays showed that Pooran was inside the crease. He wasn’t as lucky on the next ball though.

Pooran attempted a reverse sweep on a length ball coming in with the arm on off stump and got a faint edge as the ball lobbed up to Pandya who was standing at slip to hand Tilak his first international wicket.

It gave India a small opening, which they weren’t able to capitalize on in the end as Shai Hope and Brandon King finished off the chase without much fuss.
