Watch: During the second Twenty20 International between West Indies and India, at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, Kyle Mayers ran out Suryakumar Yadav with a direct throw.
India came into the second T20I one-down in the five-match series. Here, Hardik Pandya opted to bat, and despite losing Shubman Gill in the third over, they prepared for the imminent onslaught.
Ishan Kishan then flicked Obed McCoy to the right of square-leg, and the batters set off for a single. With barely more than one stump to aim, Kyle Mayers pulled off a direct hit that found non-striker Suryakumar Yadav short of the crease – just as he had done to run out Sanju Samson in the first T20I at Tarouba, Trinidad.
The square leg umpire did refer to Gregory Brathwaite, the TV umpire, but by then Suryakumar had already been walking away for a three-ball one.
India eventually made 152-7 against some excellent bowling from Akeal Hosein (2-29), Alzarri Joseph (2-28), and Romario Shepherd (2-28). Tilak Varma top-scored for a second consecutive time – this time with a 41-ball 51, his maiden fifty in the format.
Hardik Pandya (3-35) then reduced the West Indies to 2-2 in the first over before Nicholas Pooran hit six fours and four sixes in his 40-ball 67 to put the hosts on track for an easy win. However, from 126-4, they lost four wickets for three runs in 13 balls to become 129-8.
However, Hosein (16 not out in 10 balls) and Joseph (10 not out in eight) saw the hosts home with two wickets and seven balls in hand.
