India started day three on 312-2 with Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal carrying on from where they left off on day two. Jaiswal crossed 150 and was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for 171, missing out on a double-century on Test debut.

Ajinkya Rahane came in at No.5 and was caught at cover driving uppishly off Kemar Roach for the score of three. Kohli, meanwhile, reached his 29th Test fifty and was joined by Jadeja at No.6.

Like he usually does, Jadeja took his time to settle in as West Indies bowled their part-time off-spinners at the left-hander. Brathwaite, who had come in the firing line of Kohli on day two as the latter was heard on the stump mic talking to his batting partner that Brathwaite’s action was questionable, brought himself on in the 137th over.

His very first ball was a slow, loopy one that drifted to pitch just outside Jadeja’s leg stump from round the wicket. Jadeja came forward and played for the turn, yet was beaten all ends up by the sheer degree of deviation on the ball, as it whizzed past his outside edge with Joshua Da Silva collecting it with outstretched arms behind the stumps.

Jadeja had been batting with a cap on as spinners were on from both ends. But the turn and bounce on the Brathwaite delivery made him immediately turn towards the dressing room and signal for a helmet as a precautionary measure.

Brathwaite bowled three overs in the spell before Lunch and gave away nine runs. India went into Lunch with the score reading 400-4.
