India won the first Test match against West Indies in Roseau comfortably inside three days, registering their biggest ever victory outside Asia. The hosts were no match for the tourists as several Indians boosted their career records.
However, among the Yashasvi Jaiswals and Virat Kohlis who had a good game, there were the likes of Shubman Gill and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who missed out on the opportunity to score big.
Gill edged Jomel Warrican to slip for six off 11 balls, while Rahane handed a catch to cover off Kemar Roach for three off 11 balls.
As the West Indies collapsed in the second innings courtesy of another R Ashwin masterclass on a turning track, the Indians were in a jovial mood. With the stump mic volume turned up, a lot of interesting chatter was heard from around the bat, especially from wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan and bat-pad catcher Gill.

West Indies’ ninth wicket had fallen at the score of 108 when Warrican, a certified No.11, walked out. His entertaining innings comprised several sweeps and reverse sweeps, including one off the back of the bat, leading to lots of laughs from the close-in fielders.
Warrican’s run-a-ball 18 was the third-highest score in the West Indies second innings. It prompted Gill to mock himself and slip fielder Rahane, by pointing out that Warrican had outlasted both of them: “Humse zyada ballein khel gaya yaar… Ajju bhai, humse zyada ballein khel gaya ye” (He’s played more balls than us… Ajju-bhai, he’s played more balls than us”.
Warrican was finally dismissed attempting another one of his across-the-line hoicks. He missed the ball and was struck plumb in front of the wicket to give Ashwin his seventh of the innings and 12th of the match and hand Indian an easy victory.
