India displaced South Africa who had taken the top spot after their victory in Centurion. That game was their first in the 2023-2025 WTC cycle. Following the defeat at Newlands, their points percentage has dropped back down to 50 per cent.
How will the AUS vs PAK Sydney Test shake things up in the WTC points table?
There’s another New Year’s Test currently ongoing in Sydney, between Australia and Pakistan. If Australia win the game, they will go up to 54 points out of 96, taking their points percentage above India’s and consequently taking them to the top of the table.
Similarly, if Pakistan manage to beat Australia, they will jump to the top of table as well as their points percentage will marginally cross India’s. A draw, however, will see Australia slip behind South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, all of whom are tied at the second spot. Pakistan’s points percentage will drop as well, but their position on the table won’t be effected.
