Despite losing two early wickets in the second T20I of the three-match series, India’s batters did not decide against taking risks. By the time Rinku Singh walked out, they were 55-3, but the powerplay was still not over.

India lost Suryakumar Yadav and Jitesh Sharma in the space of nine balls, but Rinku kept playing his shots, eventually bringing up his maiden T20I fifty, off 30 balls.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram had taken 1-13 off his two overs with his part-time off-breaks. He backed himself to bowl the 19th over, presumably to win the match-up against two left-handers, especially Ravindra Jadeja, who has not scored quickly against spin of late.

The first four balls fetched two singles and a couple. Rinku stepped out against the fifth and cleared the mid-wicket fence by some distance.

Markram altered his trajectory. The next ball was flat, but Rinku hit very hard and very flat to smash the window of the media centre straight behind the bowler.

It rained three balls into the 20th over, and play is yet to resume. Having taken consecutive wickets, Gerald Coetzee will be on a hat-trick if India bat again. They were 180-7
