KL Rahul ended 2023 with one of the all-time great overseas centuries by an India batter, battling through to a gutsy hundred against South Africa in the Centurion Boxing Day Test.

Batting at No.6, Rahul scored 41 per cent of India’s first innings runs, and was the last wicket to fall, finishing on 101 off 137. No other batter scored more than 38.

When Rahul came out to bat, India were 92-4, having lost their first three wickets for 24 runs. Despite little support from the other end, and rain intervening on the opening day, Rahul maintained a steady pace, remaining unbeaten on 70 overnight.
