The opening fixture of the series will be played on December 10 at Kingsmead, Durban, followed by the second T20I on December 12 at St George’s Park and the third match on December 14 at the Wanderers, Johannesburg.
India are entering this series on the back of their 4-1 win against Australia at home. Suryakumar Yadav, who led in the previous series, will continue to captain India in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma and his deputy Hardik Pandya, among other senior members. Ravindra Jadeja has been named the vice-captain.
Meanwhile, South Africa have rested Temba Bavuma and Kagiso Rabada for the entire white-ball encounters to keep them fresh ahead of the Test series. Aiden Markram is entrusted with the leadership duties. Barring the injured duo of Anrich Nortje and Wayne Parnell, the home side has announced a full-strength team.
India last played a T20I series in South Africa in 2018 and won it 2-1, thanks to the Player of the Series, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who set the tone with bowling figures of 5/24 in the first match.
