South Africa will host India for a three T20Is, at Kingsmead, Durban (on December 10), St George’s Park, Gqeberha (December 12), and the Wanderers, Johannesburg (December 14).
The two teams will also play three ODIs and, as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship, two Test matches.
India are coming off a 4-1 win against Australia at home. Suryakumar Yadav, who led them in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya, has been appointed captain for this series as well. Ravindra Jadeja will be his deputy. Notable exclusions are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
South Africa left out Temba Bavuma, who led them at the 50-over World Cup, and Kagiso Rabada. Anrich Nortje and Wayne Parnell are both undergoing rehabilitation after their injuries, and have been left out of the squad. They do boast of a full squad otherwise.
India have won 13 T20Is against South Africa and lost 10. On South African soil, the result reads 5-2 in India’s favour, though the last of these matches was played in 2017/18.
