The first T20I was washed out, and South Africa and India won a match apiece to square the series. The teams will now meet for three ODIs, at Johannesburg on December 17, Gqeberha on December 19, and Paarl on December 21. The last two matches will be played under lights.

Temba Bavuma and Rohit Sharma had led the two sides at the 2023 World Cup. Neither will be part of the series. Aiden Markram will lead South Africa, while KL Rahul will step in as India captain. Other notable absentees include Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada, and Anrich Nortje.

On the other hand, South Africa have included the uncapped Nandre Burger, who impressed with his fast bowling in the third T20I. Two other uncapped fast bowlers – Mihlali Mpongwana and Lizaad Williams – have made the cut as well.

India, too, have three cricketers who have never played ODIs before – batters Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, and Rinku Singh. They have also recalled wicketkeeper Sanju Samson and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal to the fold.

South Africa have beaten India 50 times and lost 38. On South African soil, the hosts hold a 25-10 advantage.
