The first Test between South Africa and India started half an hour late yesterday (December 26), with the toss being delayed by 45 minutes due to a wet outfield. While there was a lot of rain predicted throughout the day, fortunately, 59 overs of play was possible on day one before the heavens opened up in the evening and brought an early stumps.

KL Rahul led the way for India, batting expertly with the tail to remain unbeaten on 70 while Kagiso Rabada picked his 14th five-for in Test cricket, surpassing 500 international wickets in total. AccuWeather predicts an 84 per cent probability of rain throughout the day today (December 27) with a 17 per cent probability of thunderstorms.

At no point during the day is the probability of rain less than 40 per cent, meaning several stoppages and delays can be expected. There was torrential rain overnight, and the morning has not been sunny, which can result in a delay in resumption of play on day two.

At the time of writing (1:10 pm IST), covers are on the square but there are also some promising signs with players out on the field doing their warmups.
