The tour will mark the return of India pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who will also lead the team. Bumrah has not played professional cricket since September 2022, with a severe back injury keeping him away from action.
Multiple attempts at a comeback were thwarted as he failed to regain full fitness, and he eventually underwent a “pain-free” back surgery in March this year. He has been bowling full-tilt at the nets recently and has been declared fit for the Ireland T20Is.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will lead India in the Asian Games, will be Bumrah’s deputy. A number of youngsters have been selected for the tour, with the first-choice ODI players skipping the series as a hectic schedule looms, beginning with the Asia Cup and the World Cup.
The series will feature three T20Is over a space of five days, at The Village in Dublin. Ireland will take on India in the first match on August 18, with the second T20 International two days later, on Sunday, August 20. The series will end with the third and final match, on August 23.
This will be the second time in a year that Ireland will host India in a T20I series. In 2022, the teams played two matches, with India winning the series 2-0. However, the second match was a close affair, with the Men in Blue getting over the line by just four runs.
Ireland are yet to announce their team for the India T20I series.
