Watch: Mohammed Shami leapt onto India teammate Cheteshwar Pujara’s back after dismissing him for a duck during a warm-up match ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test against England.
India and Leicestershire are involved in a four-day warm-up clash before the former lock horns with Ben Stokes’ England for the rescheduled fifth Test. In an attempt to give the India players maximum game time, Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna are playing for Leicestershire, while the visiting team is led by Rohit Sharma.
Batting first, the India XI notched up 246-8d, with Roman Walker, who is yet to make a first-class appearance, picking up five wickets, including the prized wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The other wickets were taken by Will Davis and Prasidh Krishna, who is yet to make his Test debut. The latter sent back Shreyas Iyer for a duck off 11 balls to show off his skills with the red ball.
Shami became the second bowler in the game to dismiss an India teammate when he clean bowled Pujara for a duck in the second innings. India’s No.3 was cramped up for room by the delivery, and was unsuccessful in bringing the bat down in time, as an inside edge went on to dismantle his stumps.
Following the dismissal, Shami, who is usually reserved when it comes to celebrations, ran towards the batter and leapt in the air on Pujara’s back, giving him a hug.
Pujara, who had a fine run in the 2022 County Championship, scoring 6, 201*, 109, 12, 203, 16, 170* and three in five matches, has not been in the best of forms for India, making 810 runs since the start of 2021 at an average of 27.93. His last Test hundred came in 2019.

A second wicket for Shami. He dismisses his @BCCI teammate, as Pujara drags on.
