India take on Leicestershire in a four-day practice game beginning June 23, 2022, ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test against England – watch the live streaming of the LEI vs IND 2022 match below.
India travel to England to complete the fifth Test match, which had been postponed last year. The series is currently in the favour of the visitors 2-1, with the last match scheduled to be held from July 1 to July 5 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Virat Kohli, who captained India last year in the country for the first four Tests, will not be the skipper for the game, with Rohit Sharma leading the side. It will be the opener’s first Test as full-time captain in any format away from home. The visitors will also miss the services of KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane, who have been hampered by injuries. Ishant Sharma, another member of the unit who toured England in 2021, has been dropped. R Ashwin tested positive for Covid-19 and has not yet traveled to England.
The Indians will play a four-day warm-up match ahead of the fifth Test, when they take on Leicestershire on June 24. The match will be played at Grace Road in Leicestershire. The game has been given the status of a first-class fixture.
This will be the first time since the end of IPL 2022 that a number of senior players will be in action. Players such as Kohli, Rohit, and Jasprit Bumrah had been rested for the recent five-match T20I series against South Africa in preparation for the Test match against England. The Test squad flew to the United Kingdom last week, while players who were a part of the T20I set-up, including Rishabh Pant and head coach Rahul Dravid, arrived after the end of the series, which ended 2-2.
