Watch: Virat Kohli and Shakib Al Hasan were involved in an altercation after the India batter was dismissed on during a riveting passage of play on the third day of the Dhaka Test, with Bangladesh just six wickets away from a historic win.

A rearguard batting effort from Bangladesh saw them seta 145-run target for India, which started looking tricky with a flurry of wickets in the closing hour of the third day. Bangladesh scalped four India wickets for just 37 runs, including the prized scalp of Kohli by Mehidy Hasan.

Batting in an ultra-defensive mode, Kohli had played out 21 deliveries for one run, when he tried to defend Miraz back to the pitch, only to get an inside edge, with Mominul Haq at short leg taking a tumbling catch.

Kohli stood his ground for a fair bit, seemingly engaging in a chat with one of the fielders. That’s when Shakib, Bangladesh captain, walked towards him. The two were seen momentarily arguing over something, with Kohli pointing at one of the fielders in the distance. The umpires had to intervene, separating the two players, after which Kohli finally walked off.

The dismissal left India at 37-4 – the tourists ended the day without any more damage, 100 runs still away from the target. Axar Patel and nightwatchman Jaydev Unadkat were at the crease.

It is not clear as to what incensed Kohli but it looked like one of the Bangladesh fielders said something to him on his way out, causing him to stay back and engage.
