Pakistan crashed out of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup today (October 14), losing by 54 runs to New Zealand and collapsing to 56 all out in the chase - their lowest-ever score in a women's T20I.
Pakistan began the chase having to hunt down their 111-run target in 10.4 overs in order to boost their net run rate enough to qualify for the tournament semi-finals. Having beat Sri Lanka in their opening game but lost to both India and Australia, only a big win against New Zealand would allow them to leapfrog both New Zealand and India. New Zealand on the other hand only needed a win to seal their first semi-final appearance in the competition since 2016.
In an aggressive move, Pakistan promoted Aliya Riaz up the order to open alongside Muneeba Ali. The move didn't pay off, as Riaz skied a ball to Sophie Devine off the eighth ball of the innings. Pakistan continued to mix up their batting order, however, sending Iram Javed out at three.

Muneeba followed Riaz in the next over, bowled by Leah Tahuhu, before Sadaf Shamas lasted just three balls until being bowled by Fran Jonas. It became two wickets in the over when Fatima Sana was run out off the final ball of Jonas's first, with a direct hit from Tahuhu ending Javed's innings for three off 10.
Sidra Amin was out in the following over for a first-ball duck, Nida Dar falling in the tenth over to give Amelia Kerr a wicket. Eden Carson saw the back of Omaima Sohail in the following, before three wickets fell in four balls in the 11th to see Pakistan finish on 56 all out. In all, Pakistan lost the final five wickets of their innings for four runs in 12 balls.

While 56 all out is Pakistan's lowest total in a Women's T20 World Cup, beating their previous lowest in the 2009 edition against England, it's not the lowest total of all teams in the competition. Bangladesh were bowled out for 46 by the West Indies in 2018, with Deandra Dottin taking figures of 5-5 off 3.4 overs - which are still the best individual bowling figures in a women's T20 World Cup.
The total is also Pakistan's lowest in any women's T20I, with their 60 all-out against England in 2009 also the previous record.
