England Announce T20 World Cup Squad, Pick Only One Frontline Seamer

England have announced their squad for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in the UAE from October 3.

The side will be led by Heather Knight, who will captain England in a Women's T20 World Cup for the fourth time.

The squad has wicketkeeper Bess Heath and all-rounders Freya Kemp and Danielle Gibson have been picked for the T20 World Cup for the first time. They will join a vastly experienced squad otherwise that also has Sophie Ecclestone, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt.

England have just picked one frontline pacer in the team in Lauren Bell, with Gibson, Sciver-Brunt and Kemp picked as seam-bowling all-rounders. Linsey Smith and Ecclestone will spearhead the spin attack.

The England squad will head to Abu Dhabi for a training camp between September 13-24, before taking part in the warm-up games.

England are in Group B of the competition, also featuring Bangladesh, South Africa, Scotland and the West Indies. They will begin their campaign on October 5 against Bangladesh on October 5. There remaining games will be on October 7 (against South Africa), October 13 (Scotland) and October 15 (West Indies).

The T20 World Cup was shifted from Bangladesh to the UAE due to the recent student protests and the political unrest in the country. On Monday, the ICC announced the revised schedule for the tournament, which will be held in Dubai and Sharjah.
