Bangladesh World Cup squad: here is the full team list for Bangladesh for the 2023 women’s T20 World Cup, reserve players and injury updates.
The Tigresses will be led by Nigar Sultana at the tournament, under head coach Hashan Tillakaratne. This is the fifth time they have competed in a women’s T20 World Cup after first being included in 2014 as hosts. Bangladesh qualified for the World Cup through the qualifier tournament in the UAE last year. They beat Thailand in the semi-final to claim one of the two spots in the main competition up for grabs, and went on to beat Ireland in the final.
Several names from their impressive U19 World Cup side have also been named in the Bangladesh squad for the senior World Cup. Shorna Akter, Marufa Akter and Disha Biswas all played a part in Bangladesh’s memorable victory over Australia U19 on the opening day of the tournament. The young side beat heavily favoured Australia by seven wickets, and the team went on to finish third in their Super Six group.
Bangladesh have played two warm-up games against Ireland in the run-in to the tournament. Jahanara Alam starred in Bangladesh’s five wicket victory in the first, taking four wickets. Ireland won the second match by eight wickets. Bangladesh will play another two warm up matches against Pakistan on February 6, and India on February 8.
Their first game of the tournament is scheduled to be against Sri Lanka on February 12 at Newlands Cricket Ground.
