Ireland eked out a one-wicket win over Scotland on Friday (April 18), to dash the latter's hopes of a first-ever Women's ODI World Cup qualification.
Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce elected to bat first after winning the toss, and ended up starring. Her innings of 131* held the innings together, and set new records for Scotland's highest individual score in women's ODIs, as well as the highest individual score in Women's World Cup Qualifier history. She ensured they finished on a competitive 268-7 in a must-win fixture.

Ireland's chase was set by openers Sarah Forbes (55) and Gaby Lewis (61), who put on 109 for the first wicket. A middle-order stutter saw them fall to 200-6, and then 209-7, but No.9 Jane Maguire hit an invaluable 28 off 24, putting on 53 alongside Laura Delany. Maguire was dismissed in the 49th over to leave the equation at seven from the final over.
Bryce then attempted to win the game with the ball for her side, and after conceding a boundary to No.10 Ava Canning, struck back to knock back her off stump. With one required off the final ball, Delany and No.11 Cara Murray snuck a leg-bye to break Scotland hearts, sending them out of contention for the World Cup.

Ireland, who were already eliminated have moved up one spot to fourth. Scotland remain in third, but also have no chance of making it to the World Cup. Either Bangladesh or West Indies will take the final spot.
