Attempting to bundle out Thailand as quickly as possible, West Indies did well to reduce them to 85-6, before Thailand No.4 Natthakan Chantham played a stubborn knock, shepherding the tail as best she could before becoming the final wicket to fall, for 66 in the 47th over. Thailand reached 166, meaning West Indies had to chase down the target in 10 overs or less to qualify for the World Cup.

There was something unique about the pattern of dismissals in the innings, though. All the first five wickets were bowled, as were the 7th, 8th and 9th wickets. Only Chantham, and No.7 Thipatcha Putthawong were not bowled, instead dismissed caught.

West Indies equal world record with eight bowled wickets

The total of eight wickets bowled, in a single innings is a joint world record in ODI cricket, across genders.

The last time this happened was in 1990, when England took eight Ireland wickets bowled. The only instance so far in men's cricket came in 1985, when West Indies bowled eight New Zealand batters out.

This record is eight in women's Test cricket as well, but in women's T20Is, Cambodia hold the world record for bowling out nine Phillipines batters in December 2022. Curiously, in the subsequent innings, Phillipines took eight of their nine wickets bowled, with only Heal Theara being run out.
