In a 2025 Women’s World Cup Qualifier game, West Indies captain Hayley Matthews fell first ball during her side’s chase against Pakistan to continue with her extreme ODI season.
Opening bowling, Matthews completed her full quota of 10 overs to finish with 2-30 after Fatima Sana won the toss and opted to bat in Lahore. Her wickets included Gull Feroza, in the fourth over of the match, and Diana Baig. From 53-1 and 97-2, Pakistan were bowled out for 191 as only Sidra Amin (54) put up any resistance.
Coming to defend, however, Sana struck immediately, trapping Matthews leg-before with the first ball of the chase. This extended Matthews’s unusual run in ODIs in the 2024/25 season, in which she has scored three hundreds and three ducks (to go with 16 wickets) from nine games.
In the opening game of the ongoing Qualifier, Matthews picked up 4-56, battled a hamstring injury, retired hurt twice, but returned on both occasions. Unfortunately, her hundred was not enough to help the West Indies beat Scotland. In the second game, she hit an 18-ball 23, claimed 4-24, and held three catches. She was named the Player of the Match in both games.

Her record for the 2024/25 season stands at 385 runs at 55 (strike rate 98), 16 wickets at 22.87 (economy 4.28), and nine catches. Stafanie Taylor, her compatriot, is the only one with more runs and wickets and catches than Matthews in the format.
