Scotland batters Rachel Slater and Priyanaz Chatterji stitched together 115 runs for the eighth wicket in vain, as they lost to Bangladesh by 34 runs in the Women’s World Cup Qualifier today (April 15).

Bangladesh batted first in Lahore and made 276-5, led by fifties from Fargana Hoque, Sharmin Akhter and skipper Nigar Sultana. Sultana was the aggressor, making 83 in only 59 balls, hitting 11 fours at a strike rate of 140.68, to propel Bangladesh to a competitive total.

In reply, Scotland kept losing regular wickets and were struggling at 31-3 in 7.5 overs, which soon became 110-7 in 27.1. A big loss, that would have also dented their net run rate, loomed large, but Slater and Chatterji came together and put up a fight to give Scotland hope.

Before the game, Slater had a high score of nine in three ODIs, while Chatterji had not made more than 33, but against Bangladesh, they registered their respective fifties, notching up identical scores of 61. The duo batted together for 124 deliveries, taking the score to 225 before Chatterji departed for 61 in 63 balls.

Scotland needed 52 runs in the remaining 13 balls, but could only end up with 242-9, as they lost their second game of the tournament.
