Watch: Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, playing for India in the 2016 U19 World Cup, saw his final innings in the tournament come to an unexpected end when he was stumped off a seamer after leaving the delivery.

In total, Pant scored 267 runs at 44.50, with a strike-rate of 104.29. His contribution in the final, though, amounted to just one run, with the dismissal coming in unusual circumstances. Rishabh Pant opened the batting along with Ishan Kishan, and was expected to provide a destructive start. He tried to go after Alzarri Joseph in the very first over, but couldn’t make a connection

Off the next ball, he sought to be less adventurous and left it alone. The ball was left well, but as soon as the keeper Tevin Imlach, who was standing back, collected it, he had a go at Pant’s stumps. The batter tried to drift back in, but the bails had already been disturbed.

One of the commentators went, “Now then, now then. This might be referred.” Russell Arnold, added on the air, “Foot in the air. Foot in the air for sure.”

The replays showed that Pant in fact had wandered outside his crease, and was caught off guard by the keeper’s throw. He had failed to make it back and was quite unusually stumped off a fast bowler.
