Several players have been injured in the lead-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup, beginning on February 7: Here are the latest updates on all the injuries and replacements for the tournament.

As the tournament draws nearer, several players are scrambling to get fit in time, creating uncertainty around the final squad announcements. Most teams have already announced their 15-member teams, but last-minute injury concerns will force tactical changes for all sides impacted.

Who are the injured players and their replacements for the T20 World Cup?
Mohammed Siraj replaces Harshit Rana in India squad
Pace-bowling all-rounder Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a knee injury. Mohammed Siraj, who hasn't played T20I cricket since July 2024, replaces Rana in the India squad.
Josh Hazlewood ruled out of T20 World Cup
After Pat Cummins, Australia will now have to deal with Hazlewood’s absence as well. The latter was earlier set to miss the start of the campaign, with the Australian management hoping to have him back by the Super Eights. But he has now been ruled out of the tournament altogether, and CA have also not named a replacement. Notably, Sean Abbott is a travelling reserve with the Australian squad.

Sean Abbott will stay with the Australia squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup as a travelling reserve, with Josh Hazlewood set to miss the start of the campaign. Nathan Ellis is also recovering from a hamstring issue, but has arrived in Colombo for the tournament.
Australia are notbaly also without Pat Cummins, who was recently ruled out.
Ben Sears added to NZ squad as travelling reserve
The quick replaces Kyle Jamieson, who moved up to the main squad after Adam Milne's injury.
Tilak Varma ruled out of NZ T20Is
A BCCI release on Monday (January 26) has ruled India's Tilak Varma out of the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand.
He is expected to join up with the World Cup squad on February 3.
Ellis out of BBL final
Australian quick Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the BBL final, putting his T20 World Cup participation in doubt.
Ferreira, de Zorzi ruled out
South Africa have replaced the pair with Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs.
South Africa sweat over Ferreira, Miller, de Zorzi
The Proteas are sweating over the fitness of batters Donovan Ferreira (shoulder), Tony de Zorzi (hamstring), and David Miller (groin). Already without the now-retired Heinrich Klaasen, the three absences could be a major dent to their chances.
West Indies adopt cautious approach with Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph has not been picked for the T20Is against Afghanistan as a precautionary measure, following a "degeneration of a previously resolved lower-back issue". He has commenced return-to-play protocols, but his current fitness status is uncertain.
Adam Milne walked off injured midway through SA20 clash, Ferguson en route recovery
Ferguson could bowl just three overs in his second over during the ILT20 fixture against MI Emirates, and hobbled off holding his calf. He was eventually ruled out of the tournament. Milne, meanwhile, also injured himself mid-match, injuring his left hamstring in the SA20.
Michael Bracewell latest addition to New Zealand's injury list
Several players will return from injury for the T20I series against India, including skipper Mitchell Santner, but New Zealand have been dealt another injury blow. Michael Bracewell suffered a calf issue during the third ODI against India, and did not take the field towards the end. He is doubtful for the tournament.
Australia hopeful over Tim David and Josh Hazlewood's return
George Bailey, the chairman of selectors in Australia, is hopeful that Tim David, who picked up a hamstring injury in the BBL, and Hazlewood, recovering from an Achilles injury, will be fit for the World Cup.
Pat Cummins to make late entry into the T20 World Cup
Pat Cummins, who played just one Test in the recent Ashes series, is currently recovering from a lumbar stress injury in his back. However, Australia will likely select him for the T20 World Cup, resting him during the initial half, and then playing him from the Super Eights.
Washington Sundar, Tilak Varma uncertain
India have been dealt a twin blow, with Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar uncertain for the tournament. While Tilak underwent surgery for an abdominal issue, Sundar suffered a side strain, ruling him out of both the ODIs and the T20Is against New Zealand.
Naveen-ul-Haq becomes the first player to be ruled out of the T20 WC
Naveen-ul-Haq is set to have surgery for a stress fracture on his right shoulder, ruling him out of the West Indies T20I series and the T20 World Cup to follow. He became the first player to be ruled out of the tournament. Afghanistan named Zia-ur-Rahman Sharifi as his replacement.
