Kane Williamson dismissal vs Rashid

Watch: Kane Williamson was entrapped by Rashid Khan at first slip off the latter’s very first ball of the game in the 2024 T20 World Cup fixture between New Zealand and Afghanistan on Saturday (June 8) in Guyana.

Rashid bought himself into the attack at the end of the powerplay, with New Zealand teetering at 33-3 owing to Fazalhaq Farooqi's triple strike. He struck gold off the first ball of his spell by dismissing Williamson, who was batting on nine off 13 balls.

The wily wrist-spinner came charging in and pitched the ball around off. Known for his deft touches, Williamson opened his blade in an attempt to guide the ball to the third man. But a trap was already set, as the ball safely nestled into Gulbadin Naib at first slip.

Rashid took off in celebration before being joined by his teammates.

New Zealand couldn't recover from the slump as they were skittled for 75, falling well short of their 160-run target. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was adjudged the Player of the Match for his defining 56-ball 80 in a record-century opening stand with Ibrahim Zadran, who scored 44 off 41.
