Virat Kohli plays a shot during ICC Men's T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground on October 23, 2022 in Melbourne, Australia.

Watch: Virat Kohli was dismissed cheaply by Naseem Shah during the Group A T20 World Cup fixture between India and Pakistan at the Nassau County Stadium in East Meadow, New York on Sunday (June 9).

Only an over could be bowled after a delayed start as the sky opened up again with India at 8-0. After the rain break, Kohli, who was yet to face a ball, started emphatically by creaming Naseem Shah through the covers.

A ball later, however, Naseem had his revenge. Kohli played a cut against a short, away-swinging delivery, handing it straight to Usman Khan at cover point. The widish line of the ball, in addition to the two-paced New York pitch, resulted in Kohli mistiming his shot.

For the first time, Kohli, the highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history, fell for two consecutive single-digit scores: against Ireland, he fell for a run and today (June 9), he was dismissed for four.

Rohit Sharma, who was looking good at the other end, perished in the third over, holing out to Shaheen Afridi at deep square leg while playing a pickup shot that yielded a six previously against the same bowler. India lost both their openers for 19 runs in 2.4 overs.
