Watch: Virat Kohli was out for a five-ball duck in India's final match of the 2024 T20 World Cup Super Eights against Australia, his fourth single-digit score of the competition.
Following the crunch clashes in Group Two yesterday (June 23), the second group od two semi-finalists will be decided today in the final two Group One matches. India currently sit at the top of the table, and are almost guaranteed a semi-final place even if they lose to Australia. However, whether they top the group is yet to be decided.
Facing Australia, who are fresh from their defeat against Afghanistan, Kohli played out two dots off the first two balls he faced in the innings from Mitchell Starc. Back on strike in the second over of the innings from Josh Hazlewood, Kohli played out another two dots, putting India on five runs off the first nine balls of the match.
Looking to break the shackles off Hazlewood's next delivery, Kohli attempted a pull shot to a shorter ball, but top edged it into the air. Tim David ran back from midwicket to safely take the catch in the deep, ending Kohli's innings without a run. The duck is his second of the competition, having been dismissed first ball against the USA in the group stages.
While a setback, Kohli's wicket didn't stop opening partner Rohit Sharma from pressing on. In the over following Kohli's wicket, Rohit smashed five boundaries including four sixes, to take India's score to 35-1 off the first three overs.
