Watch: Trent Boult narrowly missed out on a hat-trick in the first over of the 2024 T20 World Cup clash between New Zealand and Uganda in Trinidad, troubling the batters with his swing.

New Zealand, who have already been knocked out of the competition, started their group C game against Uganda on a high, with first-over specialist Boult picking two back-to-back wickets and narrowly falling to get a third.

Opting to bowl first, New Zealand struck with the third ball of the innings as left-armer Boult sent back left-handed Simon Ssesazi with a fuller delivery that swung away after pitching on the middle stump. The opener tried to play it away but missed and was caught in his crease as he departed for a golden duck.

Robinson Obuya too registered a first-ball duck, falling the very next delivery to Boult, who got the ball to swing in to the right-hander this time. The fuller ball came back in sharply from outside off. Obuya looked to hit it down the ground but the ball trickled in through the bat-pad gap to crash into the off-stump.

Alpesh Ramjani faced another brilliant delivery up next as the ball swung away from the left-handed batter. However, Boult was denied the hat-trick as Ramjani blocked the full-length ball.

Uganda were 1-2 after the first over and soon fell to 2-3 after Tim Southee got the wicket of Ramjani three overs later. Boult's figures are the first three overs were 2-5 with one maiden.
