Watch: Sybrand Engelbrecht pulled off a stunning save while fielding at the boundary during the Netherlands’ T20 World Cup fixture against Sri Lanka.

The Netherlands entered the match with a glimmer of hope to qualify for the Super Eights. Already out of the race, Sri Lanka put up a daunting first innings total, pushing Netherlands on the back foot. However, a brilliant fielding effort from Sybrand Engelbrecht in the deep was one of the few bright spots for the European side in the first innings.

On the second ball of the 17th over, Angelo Mathews tried to pull a full toss from Tim Pringle for a six. Engelbrecht, guarding the midwicket boundary, leapt with his right hand out and managed to drag the ball inside the ropes with a stunning exhibition of athleticism. Engelbrecht held onto the ball mid-air and, in one motion, flicked it inside the boundary while falling back beyond the rope with the momentum.

Mathews finished unbeaten on a 15-ball 30 and Wanindu Hasaranga's cameo of six-ball 20 not out had helped Sri Lanka score 201-6. Apart from the duo, Kusal Mendis (46 off 29), Dhananjaya de Silva (34 off 26) and Charith Asalanka (46 off 21) played their part in Sri Lanka's batting effort.

However, midway through the match, Netherlands' hopes were shattered as Bangladesh made it to the second round along with South Africa after beating Nepal in their last group-stage fixture.
