Watch: Shakib Al Hasan held his head mid-pitch after an erroneous call for a single resulted in Mahmudullah being run out during Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup fixture against Nepal.
After being asked to bat with their Super Eights spot on the line, Bangladesh suffered an early collapse, losing their first four wickets for 30 runs inside the powerplay.
Shakib Al Hasan and Mahumudullah tried to steady the ship but the recovery was shortlived as the latter was run out for a run-a-ball 13 after an error of judgement.
Off the last ball of the ninth over, Shakib pushed a low full toss from Sandeep Lamichhane to extra cover and set off for a run. He then realised that the ball was too close to the fielder and sent Mahmudullah, who had already crossed the half pitch mark, back.
The non-striker was unable to get back to the crease as Lamichhane dislodged the bails. Realising it was his call and what the wicket meant for Bangladesh, Shakib had his hands over his head after the dismissal.
Shakib returned soon after, being pinned lbw by Rohit Paudel off the 12th over for 17 off 22. Bangladesh dug themselves a deeper hole as they lost their ninth wicket for just 88 runs before being all out for 106.
