Against Oman at the 2024 T20 World Cup, Namibia’s Ruben Trumpelmann trapped Kashyap Prajapati and Aqib Ilyas leg-before with the first two balls of the match.

Ruben Trumpelmann rocked Oman early after Gerhard Erasmus opted to field in Namibia’s tournament opener of the 2024 T20 World Cup, at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Bowling from over the wicket, left-arm seamer Trumpelmann curled the first ball into the right-handed Oman opener Kashyap Prajapati. The ball pitched on leg and middle and rapped on the pads, and umpire Jayaram Madanagopal ruled Prajapati out leg-before.

The next ball swung in as well, and hit Oman captain Aqib Ilyas on the front boot. Ilyas reviewed what seemed like a plumb leg-before, but it was in vain. The left-handed Zeeshan Maqsood saved the hat-trick, but Trumpelmann soon had Naseem Khushi caught at mid-off.

Trumpelmann had a similar spell in the 2021 T20 World Cup as well. On that occasion, he claimed three wickets with the first, third, and fourth balls of the match against Scotland.

Zeeshan (22 in 20 balls) put up a rearguard act of sorts before Bernard Scholtz trapped him leg-before. At the time of writing, Oman were 60-4 in 10.1 overs with Khalid Kail (17) and Ayaan Khan (12) at the crease.
