Watch: Rohit Sharma smashed Pat Cummins for a 100 metre six in the India-Australia Super Eights clash of the T20 World Cup.
After being put in to bat, India got off to a quiet start, scoring 6-1 in their first two overs, losing Virat Kohli to Josh Hazlewood along the way. But the third over saw Rohit take Mitchell Starc apart, hitting him for four sixes and a four to total 29 runs.
After a tight fourth over from Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins came into the attack on the back of hat-tricks in consecutive matches, but he was greeted with disdain. Attempting a slower ball, Cummins saw Rohit go down on one knee and slog-sweep him over midwicket for a massive six, measuring all of 100m. The ball eventualy settled on the roof of the ground at the Daren Sammy International Stadium.
Before Cummins could bowl the next delivery, however, the rain which had been forecasted for the match arrived and forced the players off the field. The delay was short though, and India continued on their merry way to score 60-1 in the Powerplay, including a 19-ball fifty for Rohit. By the end of the 10th over, the score had swelled to 114-2.
Rohit's six off Cummins was also his 200th in T20 internationals. He became the first batter in the history of the format to reach the landmark. The next batter on the list is Martin Guptill of New Zealand with 173 T20I sixes.
