Two hat-tricks in a row for Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins became the first bowler to get back-to-back T20I hat-tricks, achieving the milestone against Afghanistan in the Super Eight clash in Kingstown.

Cummins takes two hat-tricks in three days

Cummins became the first Australia quick after Brett Lee in 2007 to pick up a hat-trick, achieved the feat in his previous game against Bangladesh two days ago. He created history when he scalped three in three yet again against Afghanistan, two days later. Australia's ODI and Test captain accomplished the remarkable achievement over the course of two consecutive overs, just like in the previous match, dismissing Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib to create history.

Cummins bowled a fuller ball with the pace off to Rashid on the last ball of the 18th over. The batter looked to dance down the track but was unable to connect, giving an easy catch to Tim David at long-on. He dismissed Janat on the first ball of his next over and completed the hat-trick after Naib tried to swing across the line of a full-length delivery, only to get dismissed at deep mid-wicket.

Nearly takes four in four

He could have snared four in four if not for a spilled catch by David Warner at deep point, but he created history nonetheless. It was only the eighth instance of a bowler picking up a hat-trick in the men’s T20 World Cup and only the third time a player from a Full-Member country has taken two hat-tricks in the format.

Afghanistan's innings was a tale of two halves: they recorded the highest partnership ever against Australia, but also lost six wickets for 30 runs, eventually finishing on 148-6.
