Archer has been picked in the England side for the T20 World Cup to be held in the Caribbean and the USA in June. He last played competitive cricket at the top level in IPL 2023. Since then, he’s largely been out of action due to injuries, but is on track to be fit for the T20 World Cup.
Earlier this year, Archer had toured India with Sussex during their pre-season. Now, on Saturday (May 4), he was spotted in action in a local club game in Barbados as he aims to build up to the showpiece event.
Playing for Wildey against Carlton in the semi-final of the BCA T20 Cup Championship, Archer first shone with the bat, scoring 54 off 20 balls including five sixes, before he was too hot to handle for the opposition batters, as was reflected in his figures of 3-16. Widley won the game by 34 runs, defending 191.
For one of his three wickets, Archer sent the off stump of a batter cartwheeling back several rotations before he wheeled away in celebrations.
This bodes well for England fans as they prepare for Archer’s homecoming at the T20 World Cup. Last year, he travelled with the team as a reserve for the 2023 ODI World Cup, but was not fit enough to play. England will hope that he is ready for their first game of the tournament as they look to defend their title.
