The speedster has enjoyed a brilliant tournament, and knocked over England’s in-form opener with a beauty. India had put up 171-7 - a total not dissimilar to the semi-final between the sides at Adelaide in 2022, though on a low, turning pitch, this always looked a tougher task.

While there were fears over what India’s spin trio could do, Bumrah also loomed large. And he showed he could rag it with the best of them as he bowled Salt, who held the pose having been thoroughly defeated.

The first wicket had already fallen, to Axar Patel, and he and Kuldeep Yadav combined for five more English wickets. Two also fell to run outs before Bumrah returned to wrap up the job, England bowled out for 103.

Victory sets up a final against South Africa in Barbados on Saturday, June 29.
