Watch: Chris Gayle got his blazer signed by current superstars Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, among others before the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup fixture between India and Pakistan on Sunday (June 9).
The buildup of the blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan saw a familiar figure. In his usual upbeat, eccentric nature, Gayle graced the pre-match warm sessions of both teams. The former West Indies international was seen asking for autographs from cricketers of both sides on a stylish white blazer he was wearing.
Virat Kohli, who once shared the Royal Challengers Bengaluru dressing room in IPL with Gayle, had a heartwarming moment and hugged his former teammate. Among other Indian cricketers, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Yashashvi Jaiswal were seen signing on Gayle’s attire. Babar Azam was among the Pakistan players who gave his autograph alongside cricketer-turned-commentator Wasim Akram.
That is not the first time the Jamaican had shown up in an India-Pakistan game. In an identical gesture in the 2019 ODI World Cup, he wore a similar jacket with one side resembling the Indian tri-colour and the other painted green, resembling the Pakistan flag’s green colour. He said it was for “peace and love”.
India went on to win the match by six runs.
