Rohit Sharma 29 runs in an over

Watch: Rohit Sharma went on an all-out assault against Mitchell Starc, smashing him for four sixes in one over during the India-Australia Super Eights clash at the T20 World Cup in St Lucia.

India were put into bat after losing the toss. Starc, who was back after being dropped for the previous game against Afghanistan, took the new ball and dished up a high full toss first up, which Rohit calmly pushed to point.

After a non-eventful first over where five runs were scored, Josh Hazlewood dismissed Virat Kohli in the second for a duck, his second of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rishabh Pant, the new batter, blocked the last two balls of the over, as India's score read 6-1 after two.

The early wicket didn't have any effect on Rohit, however, as he tore into Starc in the very next over. The first two balls were sliced over cover for near-identical sixes, before the third was heaved over mid on for four. Starc overpitched again on the fourth delivery, and this time Rohit slog swept him over mid-wicket for a huge six, making a cracking sound off the bat.

Following a wide and a dot ball, Rohit swung hard on the last ball of the over as well, getting a top edge to a full toss that flew over third for the fourth six of the over, taking the tally to 29 for the over, the most Starc has conceded in an over in his T20I career.

Rain interrupted the game after the first ball of the fifth over, which was also smashed for a six by Rohit, this time off the bowling of Pat Cummins. India's score read 43-1, 41 of which came off Rohit's bat.
