NED vs SA, AUS vs ENG & WI vs UGA: T20 World Cup 2024 team news

Netherlands news

Netherlands opened their account at the T20 World Cup on Tuesday. In a match delayed by rain, they did well to bowl Nepal out for 106 in Dallas, but took their time to chase down the target. Logan van Beek, Tim Pringle and Max O'Dowd were the standouts in that match and will remain crucial as the Dutch now set their sights on South Africa.

South Africa news

South Africa's opening game of the tournament was against Sri Lanka in New York and they got off the mark with a win, although their chase of 78 was not as straightforward as it could have been. Now, they will take on their bogey team at the same venue. The Proteas have lost to Netherlands twice recently; in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.

Australia news

Australia's opener ended in a comfortable 39-run victory over Oman, but there were periods of the game in the firts innings where it seemed as though things could have gone sideways for them. Nevertheless, they wiill take heart from the performances of Marcus Stoinis and the bowling group as they gear up for a highly-anticipated clash against arch-rivals England.

England news

In a sense, England's match against Australia may as well be their first of the tournament. Their match against Scotland was heavily affected by rain and was eventually called off with the Scots having scored 90-0 in 10 overs. At least the bowlers had those 10 overs, though. England's batters have not had a go yet, and the Australia match will be a real test.

West Indies news

West Indies were given a real scare in their opening match against Papua New Guinea, who batted sensibly and then threatened to defend 136 in Guyana. They did come away with two points though, and another two from the upcoming match would put them in a strong position to qualify for the Super Eight stage from Group C.

Uganda news

After receiving a 125-run thrashing from Afghanistan, Uganda bounced back to record their first-ever Men's T20 World Cup victory, defeating Papua New Guinea by three wickets in a low scoring thriller. The Cricket Cranes enter their match against West Indies as underdogs, but will be hoping to put up a good show.

NED vs SA, AUS vs ENG & WI vs UGA: Prediction for today’s T20 World Cup matches

NED vs SA

Netherlands have had the wood over South Africa in the sides' recent fixtures, and are a solid T20 outfit, especially on the bowling front. On a New York deck with enough in it for the seamers, expect the likes of Logan van Beek and Paul van Meekeren to trouble the Proteas. Even if they bowl well though, the Dutch will have to contend with South African pacers Anrich Nortje and Ottneil Baartman who are more than capable of running through them. Once again, South Africa will start as favourites but once again, Netherlands are looking to upset the applecart.

AUS vs ENG

Australia vs England is the first clash at this tournament between two of the favourites for the title, and it should be an exciting game. Both sides played their opening matches here, albeit at different times. They should still have a fair idea of what the pitch has in store for them. Australia are likely to bring Pat Cummins back into the side, after he was rested against Oman. In a game of tight margins, England's relative consistency could see them just pip the Aussies in this one.

WI vs UGA

West Indies vs Uganda is one of the more unbalanced ties in the group stage this time around. That being said, Uganda did show good skill and spirit to restrict Afghanistan's batters at the death in their opening game, before bowling Papua New Guinea out for 77. The co-hosts will be looking for a routine victory, while Uganda are on the look-out for a giant killing.
