ICC announces record prize money for T20 World Cup
ICC have allocated a record-breaking USD 2.45 million prize for the 2024 T20 World Cup winners. The prize pot is USD 11.25 million, from which the runners-up will pocket 1.28 million. The tournament, co-hosted by USA for the first time along with the West Indies, will also award losing semi-finalists USD 787,500 each.
New York to deploy snipers at T20 World Cup matches amid terror threat
According to a BBC report, security has been beefed up at the Nassau County Stadium after a pro-ISIS group has reportedly threatened to target the tournament. Snipers have been positioned at hidden locations. The Nassau County Police Department will oversee the security with SWAT teams and officers wearing civil clothes operating inside the ground.
The park surrounding the perimeter of the venue will be closed to the public during the eight match days from June 3 and 12 to avert any drone attacks. Attendees at the matches will be subject to thorough searches.
Jaffer hits back at accusations of T20 World Cup scheduling favouring India
India are one of the only teams to know their semi-final venue before the start of the tournament. While this could be due to the financial implications, some have criticised the ICC for providing undue advantage to the inaugural world champions.
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer has responded to the accusations in a tongue-in-cheek post on X. "It's one thing to know where your SF will be played, it's another thing to qualify for it," wrote Jaffer on the social media platform. "For example WTC Final have always been held in England but England have never qualified."

Gambhir: I would love to coach the Indian team
Gautam Gambhir has shown interest in coaching India amid growing rumours that he is one of the frontrunners in that role.
"Look, I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team," said Gambhir on Sunday. "You are representing 140 crore Indians. And more across the globe as well. And when you represent India, how can it get bigger than that?"
He recently mentored Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL 2024 title. The deadline for the position was May 27, the day after the final. However, it's not confirmed whether the former India opener has applied for the job.
