India play England, South Africa play Afghanistan in semi-final

Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh confirmed the final four of the 2024 men's T20 World Cup.

Afghanistan secured a semi-final birth for the first time, beating Bangladesh and knocking out Australia to become the second team from Group 1 to qualify. India is the other team from the group to make it through, having been undefeated through the campaign.

The Afghanistan-Bangladesh match, which was reduced to 19 overs during the second innings, was a decider for three teams: Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. With India beating Australia the previous night, the former champions were dependent on Bangladesh to help them qualify. A win for Bangladesh would have seen Australia through, but Afghanistan sneaked through.

From the other group, South Africa knocked West Indies out on their way to qualification, with USA suffering a string of defeats as well. England was the other team to qualify, having picked up momentum through the tournament.

The World Cup is assured to have a new finalist, with neither Afghanistan or South Africa having qualified before.

No reserve day for second semi-final

The second semi-final, featuring India and England, will be different from the first, with no reserve day allocated. There will be an additional 250 minutes available to adjust for an delays. For the first semi-final, there's going to be just an extra 60 minutes on game day, and 190 extra minutes on reserve day.
